Love rowing, love racing, no boat? Try track cycling at Herne Hill Velodrome!
Track cycling is the perfect next step for current or ex-rowers who miss the thrill of competition but want something more flexible than a full-time rowing programme. We're hosting a special track taster for rowers, and with 25% off the price of a regular track taster!
With short, punchy intervals and race efforts that mirror your familiar 1–20 minute bursts, it’s a natural fit for rowing fitness—and no six-hour training slogs required. At Herne Hill Velodrome, you can turn up, put in a quality hour or two, and be home before dinner. The track welcomes every body type—big, small, tall, or powerful. Whether you're looking to stay sharp, replace rowing, or just try something new with the same buzz of racing, this friendly taster session is your chance to get on the 'drome and give it a spin.
In this taster we'll cover:
How to ride a fixed gear bike (easier than you think to master)
How to use the banked slope to your advantage
All the basics of group riding on the track - you'll be qualified to come back to one of our track skills sessions after this taster.
We provide the track bike, you just have to bring your good self, comfortable exercise-friendly clothing, and trainers. Bonus if you bring gloves and a helmet, but we can also provide those if you don’t have any. See our Track FAQs for more info.
Track cycling can be both a solo and social activity, but one thing’s for certain, there’s no traffic to be found. Cycle in bliss at this hidden historical gem, home of the 1948 Olympics track meet.
We are situated at 104 Burbage Rd, London SE24 9HE. We’re a short walk (and even shorter cycle) from North Dulwich, Herne Hill or Tulse Hill overground stations and local bus routes can be found by clicking here. As you walk north-west along Burbage Rd (from the cross with Turney Rd) keep an eye out for some white curved walls, lovely wood panel gates and a small sign on your right-hand side.
We’ve a limited amount of free parking available on site but we encourage you to travel here by cycle or public transport where you can.
For more information about the recently updated traffic calming measures on Burbage Road click here or search ‘Dulwich Streetspace’. You can't access Burbage Road from the south (via the junction with Turney Road) on a weekday between 08:00-9:00 and 15:00-16:30. At those times you'll need to go via Half Moon Lane.
