HHV Road Bike Riding

Session Overview:

An open road bike session for cyclists to get some riding time in a traffic-free environment. These sessions are supervised but uncoached. Please check in with a staff member before entering the track to let us know you're here, and to receive the safety briefing. Please also read our updated guidance for this session below, and also in your confirmation email.

Session Details:

• Age Group: This session is open to people over 14 years old.

• Experience level: No experience necessary - you just need to be able to ride a bike!

• Session Duration: 1 hour unless otherwise stated

• Bike specification: A road (or geared bike eg hybrid) in good working order. We don't have bikes available to hire for this session.

• Helmet and gloves must be worn.

Regular sessions currently include Thurs and Fri lunchtimes. Please check below for specific timings.

Ad Hoc: Other dates and times will be advertised here as well as on our track calendar - these will usually occur in or around public holidays and school holidays.

Updated rules and guidance for this session:

• When you arrive please wait outside the main track gate - do not enter the track without being briefed, even if you are a regular rider. 
• Stay left unless you’re overtaking (the white line is the leftmost/bottom of the track)
• Look where you are going and be constantly aware of others around you.
• Ride with a maximum of two riders abreast if you are riding casually and chatting.
• No stopping or braking anywhere on the track, come into the holding area if you need to stop.
• Use the safety zone (left of the thick light blue line) for slowing down or having a break from pedalling (but do not stop)
• Overtake on the right and ensure you do shoulder checks before/after overtaking.
• Call out ‘rider’ if overtaking
• No headphones, including bone conducting headphones
• If a coach tries to flag you down, stop and listen to their feedback, and follow their instructions. Riders repeatedly not adhering to the rules of this session will be asked to leave.
