Para Velo Track Skills session
A monthly track session for para-eligible riders to cycle on the velodrome. This is a fun and friendly session for anyone who wants to cycle in a traffic-free space for fun and fitness.
The session is aimed at Bicycle (C1-C5) and Tandem (B) riders who are eligible within the para track classifications (find out more about track riding classifications here) - however you don’t need to be officially registered/classifed to take part. Simply come along and have a go! If you have a desire to take it further / do any racing, just speak to our coaches about what the next steps might be.
This session is 2 hours in order to have plenty of time to accommodate the needs of a variety of riders in a relaxed and fun environment. We’ll aim to mix endurance, sprint and time trial training along with any other skills appropriate for the riders attending.
If you’re a sighted tandem pilot please register your availability by signing up to the session: contact Thea (tsmith@hhvt.org) for a code for free entry.
Session Details:
Session Duration: 2hrs. There will be plenty of breaks!
Bikes: This session is for fixed wheel track bikes only. We have a limited number of track tandems; please specify in the entry form if you’re interested in tandem riding. We have plenty of standard solo track bikes available. There is no extra charge for bike hire.
Experience level: No experience necessary. If you’re unsure about your ability to ride a solo/tandem two-wheeled bike, please contact us first.
Adaptations: We don't have any specific adaptations to support limb difference on our track bikes. If you think this would be necessary for you to be able to take part, please contact us ahead of booking.
What to Bring:
Water and a snack
Gloves
Weather-appropriate clothing
Recommended Clothing:
Lycra is not required, although we recommend that you don't wear anything too baggy - layers are recommended, as well as a warm jacket for after.
Helmets must be worn: these can be borrowed at no extra cost. If you have one of your own, you’re welcome to bring it.
Waterproofs (sessions will still run in bad weather)
Shoulders must be covered
Closed-toed shoes must be worn (preferably trainers): no sandals, sliders, crocs or flip flops please! If you are an experienced cyclist and use a cleat-based foot retention system, you can use this on our bikes, but you will need to bring your own pedals and tools to swap pedals over.
Location:
Meeting Point: At the track meeting point, which is on the grandstand/pavilion next to the track. If you require additional help (eg meet and greet from a taxi) please let us know in advance through the entry form.
Our site is fully wheelchair accessible.
We are situated at 104 Burbage Rd, London SE24 9HE. We’re a short walk (and even shorter cycle) from North Dulwich, Herne Hill or Tulse Hill overground stations and local bus routes can be found by clicking here. As you walk north-west along Burbage Rd (from the cross with Turney Rd) keep an eye out for some white curved walls, lovely wood panel gates and a small sign on your right-hand side.
We’ve a limited amount of free parking available on site but we encourage you to travel here by cycle or public transport where you can.
For more information about the recently updated traffic calming measures on Burbage Road click here or search ‘Dulwich Streetspace’. You can't access Burbage Road from the south (via the junction with Turney Road) on a weekday between 08:00-9:00 and 15:00-16:30. At those times you'll need to go via Half Moon Lane.
